This 4th of July had to be one of my favorite ones yet. During the day we went to the State Capital for the annual Salute to America celebration. It was our first time and we will definitely be going back. There was face painting, carnival rides, street vendors, food trucks, sand sculptures, and a petting zoo which we somehow managed to miss. After a quick stop at home we headed to J’s aunt’s house. There’s just something about celebrating 4th of July in the country that makes it even more fun. Our 4th of July was great although it falling in the middle of the week was less than ideal, but at least the week seemed to go by a little faster.  The night of the 3rd we were supposed to go over to my parent’s house with my sister and her family for BBQ and fireworks but Ben got in some trouble at school that day (like the biting kind of trouble) and he had to stay home and miss out on the BBQ as a consequence. Our 4th technically started on the 3rd with a bbq at my parent’s house. Don’t let these two fool you. They were far from sleeping.  I was pretty pleased with how my cake turned out although it could have used a little more frosting.  That night we shot off some small fireworks. We had a really great fourth which is why I have put off writing about it because there is so much to share! The biggest difference between this year and last is that Ben is actually old enough to know and somewhat understand what is going on. Last year he was not not quite 6 months and although he starred at the fireworks, he could have cared less.
