Oh what a Monday it’s been. If you saw my Instastory over the weekend you know that on Friday night we discovered blood in Jack’s urine after he came running to me to come look in the toilet. Something no mom ever wants hear. After a quick call to the nurse hotline, they determined we didn’t need to go immediately to the ER but we would need to see a doctor on Saturday. Luckily our regular pediatrician was on call and he got us right in.
Long story short, after urine and blood work, and then an ultrasound today, they ruled out both a UTI and any kind of tumor. Which is the good news. The bad news is we still don’t know what’s causing the bleeding. They mailed some of Jack’s labs to the Mayo clinic and we should know those results in a few days. We are also meeting with another specialist tomorrow in case they need to do a kidney biopsy in the future or this becomes a reoccurring problem.
The two causes on the table at this point are that Jack had strep a few weeks ago that we never knew about and although the strep is gone now, his body built up antibodies which are having a reaction in his body. It’s essentially harmless and will go away on it’s own. The other cause is some kind of chronic kidney issue or kidney failure. Needless to say this is the first time I’ve ever hoped for strep.
Despite the craziness over the past couple of days, Jack is actually feeling fine. He’s eating, drinking, and playing as usual, but it’s pretty scary to look in the toilet. I’m also so so so thankful that I work for a university/healthcare system and that our insurance is beyond amazing. My last employer had worse than horrible insurance so this is something I do not take for granted. And can I just brag on our pediatrician. He has followed up with me via text and phone calls to check in and go over each new lab report as it comes in. All of this on the weekend and in the evenings. It’s no wonder he’s everyone’s favorite.
So, not so short of a story but that’s whats been going on. And despite all that, we still managed to have a pretty good weekend complete with a dusting of snow which was gone just as fast as it came.
While Jack took a 5 HOUR nap Saturday afternoon, Ben and I made the best fluffy slime with shaving cream. We both agreed this was our favorite so keep an eye out for the recipe this week.
By Sunday we were all ready to get out of the house so we braved the cold temperatures for lunch at a local brewery (momma needed a beer) and then Jack and I hit up another antique store where I found this unique piece of milk glass to add to the sofa table which is this close to being styled.
Here’s to hoping for an uneventful rest of the week!
Linking up with Biana for Weekending.
